Eligibility

Candidates with the following qualifications are eligible for enrollment for Ph.D courses of this University, under the following faculties.

MEDICAL

  Clinical Subjects Pre-Clinical and Para-Clinical subjects Human Genetics
Candidates with MD/MS, MRCP/FRCS (granted in UK on or before 11.11.1975 as per MCI Act 1956, second schedule) are eligible to register for Ph.D course in their subject of specialization. Candidates with equivalent degrees and Master’s degree awarded by a College/University recognized by MCI are also eligible. In case of clinical subjects only candidates possessing M.D., M.S., D.M., M.Ch or any equivalent P.G. degree after M.B.B.S. recognized by RGUHS are eligible. In case of Pre-Clinical and Para-Clinical subjects, in addition to candidates who have done M.D. or M.S. after MBBS degree, non-medical candidates with M.Sc., in Anatomy / Physiology / Biochemistry/ microbiology/ Pharmacology under Medical faculty as recognized by MCI are also eligible. Candidates who have done M.Sc in Human Genetics under Medical Faculty are also eligible to register for Ph.D course in Medical Genetics. (Vide resolution passed by the Ph.D registration committee in Medical faculty on 27.04.2005)

Enrolment

Applications are invited bi-annually (around the months of April – May & October – November) on dates to be notified by the university.

A candidate may apply for admission to Ph.D to the Registrar, RGUHS in the prescribed application form obtainable from the University following newspaper/website notification. The selection process will take place by the end of month of June & December every year. Selected candidates will be granted provisional registration, for the Ph.D course 1st session commencing from 1st July of same year & 2nd session commencing from 1st January of next year.

NOTE: Candidates have to submit the RGUHS affiliation order recognizing the department as Ph.D centre along with the prescribed application form


VIT University

Categories

External part-time candidates: Teachers working in other colleges in a permanent position and candidates sponsored by R & D organisations, National laboratories and Industries having R & D facilities recognized by DSIR, with requisite minimum qualifications can work on part time basis for Ph.D degree but they should apply in the prescribed form on or before the specified dates, to be announced normally once every year.

Eligibility

Ph.D in Sciences / Languages : Master’s degree with a minimum 60% in sciences

Procedure

  • Applications will be invited by open advertisement in all leading news papers / local announcement for all categories of candidates mentioned in section 2.
  • Out of the applications received, the School / Centers will short-list the candidates to be called for written and test / interview to be conducted at the institute on a pre-announced date.
  • Selection will be based on the overall merit index of the candidate which will be arrived at by taking into account the candidate’s performance in the previous university examinations at Bachelor’s and Master’s level and the performance in the written test and / the interview. hvy Page 2 of 13 The weightages for arriving at the overall merit index will be as follows: Bachelor’s degree – 20 % Master’s degree – 20 % Written test and / Interview – 60 % Candidates qualified in CSIR-UGC NET for JRF may be exempted from the written test requirement.
